‘Thread and Word’ is an artist led walk by Elspeth Penfold with participants from the Turner Contemporary ‘Walking with the Waste Land’ research group and in collaboration with invited artists.
As a part of the International Women’s Day celebrations in March 2017 we will openly and collaboratively celebrate the threads that bring us together through sited readings of Cecilia Vicuna’s poem, “Thread and Word” and participatory interventions along the walk. We will reflect on women’s contributions to the arts from across the world through the poetry of the Chilean artist Cecilia Vicuna following a walking route through the site of Sculpture in the City, stopping to highlight the work of the two women artists included in this exhibition of Public Art, the English artist Sarah Lucas and the Peruvian artist Lizi Sanchez.
