Recent work on Being Human
"There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle" Albert Einstein
When we take a realistic look at our lives, it is hard not to believe in the second of Einstein's choices. The miracles are all around us.
But life is for a limited time only, it is just a blip on the cosmos screen, and there is suffering, all sorts of suffering.
"You must make use of this boat which is the human life, to cross over the great river of suffering" Master Shantideva
I was born in Berlin in 1939 and worked for many years for a big oil company in London as a translator. I did not understand the oil industry, but fortunately none of my customers understood German. I then took up illustration in order to do the same for children's books authors. Fortunately I now work for myself, so I have no one to please.
I did not miss much by not going to art school between 1960 and 1980. In that period the so-called art schools
taught few useful skills. Painting and Drawing were officially dead.
I enjoy my present work, which aims at the not-quite-finished look. Those who see my paintings can have their own ideas as to how a picture could develop. In this way I hope that many others can enjoy my work.
